NCA Panel Discussion: New
Falcons Stadium
Friends:

You will not want to miss the next Northwest Community
Alliance   (NCA) meeting -- Wednesday, May 16, 7pm at the
Senior Center, 1705 Commerce Drive, Atlanta, Ga. 30318.

You have all read about the proposed stadium being floated
by the Atlanta Falcons and the World Congress Center.
What do the adjacent   neighborhoods (Vine City, English
Avenue, and Marietta Street Artery) say about it?  If a new
stadium is coming, what is the potential for jobs for   area
residents and how will it improve these neighborhoods?
Conversely, what unfulfilled promises still exist from the
development of the Georgia Dome and subsequent
expansions of the GWCC?

The panel is still coming together but we can confirm:

  • Yvonne Jones, NPU L President,

  • Curt Flaherty, Marietta Street Artery Association

  • Ivory Lee Young Jr., District 3 Atlanta Councilmember

  • Mable Thomas, former representative of the Ga. State
House and the Atlanta City Council

  • Frank Poe, Executive Director, Georgia World
    Congress Center Authority

In addition to the issue of the stadium, we will be briefly
discussing the new Historic Westside Village Wal-Mart and
those ongoing negotiations. The NCA has negotiated Wal-
Mart developments in the past and will continue to assist in
any way the neighborhoods wants.

Special thanks to Mable Thomas and long term NCA Board
Member and Atlanta School Board VP Byron Amos for
helping put this program together.

We would remiss if we did not take time to thank Rep.
Kathy Ashe, for her long, productive service in the Georgia
House of Representatives. Rep. Ashe recently announced
her retirement and will have served 22 years by the end of
her term. She has actively participated our NCA meetings
over time and we look forward to her continued
participation in the NCA for years to come.

With thanks,

Mike Koblentz

FUND RAISING DRIVE UNDERWAY
The Northwest Community Alliance after
several years of adequate financing
primarily through the good graces of Bates

While we do not spend too many dollars we
need funding for our meeting space, food
suppliers and other expenses.   For now
we will be collecting donations at our
meetings and we would appreciate any of
your  generous support.
Special thanks to Tawn Chi of Lunchbox
Atlanta for the fine food that she serves
at every NCA meeting. Please visit her
